The Car / BMW 1998 (E38) 735i or 750iL ?

There is some question as to exactly what BMW model was used in the production of The Transporter movie.

A location director on The Transporter movie involved in  all the car chase scenes has provided the following production facts:

The primary vehicle seen throughout the movie  is a 1998 BMW 750iL Euro model, referenced as a 735i. This was a product placment vehicle to promote BMW's 7 series of vehicles. The 750iL in the film had a stock 322HP V-12 engine and was fitted with a 6-speed manual transmission (850ci) for the movie (by BMW) to allow for more "action" during the chase sequences.

The vehcle is referenced as a 1999 BMW 735i throughout the movie to promote 735i sales globally and in the USA. The 750iL model was not marketed by BMW for mass market appeal and was very expensive for the time. The vehicle(s) shown in the film are all pre-facelift E38 (1999) and are probably 1998 models.

There were (3) BMW vehicles purchased for the filming. And the model badges were removed because they were not all the same type. During the filming (2) were destroyed and (1) was severly damaged. Small variations in interior appointment levels can be seen in the movie, thus confirming there were multiple vehicles used during filming.

Some of  the vehicle stunts involving the BMWs were staged by Phillippe Guegan (Guegan Stunt Company).

Note: The BMW V-12 engine used in the 750iL also was sold to Rolls Royce to power their flagship models.

The BMW car jump scene (from the bridge) in The Transporter movie (seen above) was mostly special effects. The filming location for the BMW on the "bridge" was actually not a bridge, but rather the Lamarck Caulaincourt (Paris)  metro station exit (seen below as it appears today). The jump itself never happened. The scene in the film showing the BMW in the air and landing on the car transport was actually shot as a small jump from a ramp at a car park in Gennevilliers (near Paris) with green screen as a backdrop. The vehicle actually drove on a guide rail for the "jump". In the film you will notice that the tires are missing on the driver side of the BMW as Frank Martin lands the car on the car transport (the car was driven on the rims on the guide rail for the scene shot against a green screen back drop). For some reason, the effects team at Eclair did not correct for the misssing tires in the final cut of the scene?

Peugeot 2001 307 model police cars. During the filming they utilized 11 of these vehicles -

The opening car chase scene culminates on the Promenade de la Croisette in Cannes, France. Steven Chasman and Luc Besson had to meet with the mayor of Cannes to get special approval to film the high speed chase scenes in the city. It was considered off season at the time of filming and city officials still required a number of safety precautuions to protect the tourists and people visiting the famous Cannes landmark (La Croisette).  Frank Martin turns onto the La Croisette from Ave du Canada in his BMW with many police cars in persuit.... and passes in front of the famous Carlton hotel (see arrow below)  -
